Our trout eggs for the 2011-2012 year are in the tank! I met Don Thompson at Sportsman's Warehouse in Lexington on Friday, September 23rd. I drove them back to Independence and then, as a class, we made sure that the water temperature the eggs were in matched the water temperature in the tank by slowly adding tank water to the bag of eggs. The eggs should be hatching this week!
Trout Team will be beginning in October this year. To be on Trout Team you need to be in 5th grade and be willing to give up about 5 minutes of your morning time each day, as well as about an hour every other week to help clean the tank and change the water. The days that you will need to stay after school will be on a rotating basis so that more students will be available. More details about an application will soon follow.
What are you excited to learn about the trout this year??

Electricity SHOCK!
Hello, this is the Trout Team, Rebecca, Destiny, and Payton. On Wednesday the 23rd, the power went out because of the weather! It would take hours for the power to get back on! We needed the water to filter and try to clean the tank. If the power didn't come on, soon the water would be warm and the fish could die.Luckly the power came back on and none of the fish died. We are going to change the water and test the water after school. Bye see you next week.:)

Food 2
We just began feeding our trout the food from the second bag marked 2. I wonder if it will help our trout grow even more. At this time, they're about two inches long. We picked some up and touched them today and noticed that they feel really slimy. We decided that was to help protect them in some way, bt we need to research more on what the exact function is.
